Contested Auto Insurance Claims Will Be Unaffordable For Most British Columbians
“The NDP Government proposed $5,500 cap on soft tissue damage will make contested claims unaffordable for the majority of British Columbians”, said Dr. Robin Richardson, Leader of The Vancouver Island Party.
“I had an automobile accident in 2014 and was off work for 22 months. My lawyer took on my claim with a contingency agreement of 30% of the settlement, plus disbursements. I found this to be quite reasonable”, said Dr. Richardson.
“My lawyer now tells me that if soft tissue claims are capped at $5,500, she will have to charge her new clients a retainer of $5,000 and an hourly fee of $300. This will make hiring a lawyer to settle claims against ICBC unaffordable for most British Columbians.
The personal injury lawyers have established a website, ROADBC.CA, where concerned British Columbians can sign a petition to repeal this proposed NDP legislation. We urge supporters of the Vancouver Island Party and others to sign this petition and write a letter to your MLA to demand that the NDP Government of British Columbia do not put a cap on soft tissue injuries in their proposed legislation.”
